ABOUT ME
Statement
Freya makes work that is inspired by nature, drawing on forms she loves to bring themes of biophilia into her work. Often her work specialises in leaves as they’re one of her favourite objects in nature. She uses primarily kiln formed glass to bring new life to the leaves that would otherwise breakdown in the autumn, bringing permanence from an inevitable cycle into her pieces. She likes to work with mould making to achieve this and has been exploring it through different methods like lost wax casting, slumping and pate de verre.
She enjoys collecting objects in nature to preserve them, keeping them for memories from different walks and adventures. Biophilic design is an important feature for her work as research shows how integral it can be for your mental wellbeing. She believes her work can help improve that by incorporating nature into a setting it may not necessarily reside in through art.
